Congratulations to State of Florida Archives and Records Management Bureau Chief Gerard Clark on his retirement, which was celebrated at a party in his honor on Monday, July 24th at the R.A. Gray Building, home of the State Archives of Florida. Gerard was the recent recipient of a lifetime achievement award presented to him at the Society of Florida Archivists annual meeting in St. Petersburg in May this year.
Among his accomplishments in serving the archival profession for 38 years:
- He played a key role in the acquisition and organization of many of the historical records that formed the core of the State Archives’ early collections.
- He was an original SFA founder, charter member and one of its first presidents.
- He served as coordinator of the State Historical Records Advisory Board and was instrumental in securing and distributing grant funds to archives around Florida.
Gerard's passion for preserving, promoting, and making historical records accessible to the public has encouraged and inspired his staff, students and colleagues. We wish him well!
