Update on the Annual Meeting

11 Oct 2016 2:09 PM | Krystal Thomas (Administrator)

We have the latest update on the Annual Meeting from the Arrangements committee:

The conference hotel has indicated to us that they are up and running and ready to receive guests in spite of some damage that they received. While we regret having to cancel Wednesday's workshops, we are glad to be moving forward with the conference activities on Thursday and Friday. For those who RSVP'd to the happy hour on Wednesday evening, please be advised that it is still happening.

If you are a registrant of a workshop scheduled for Wednesday, an additional update will be sent to you directly. If you have any questions about the workshops, please contact matdarby@uga.edu.

For those with Tuesday hotel bookings at the conference hotel, the hotel has indicated that they have no issue with Tuesday night room cancellations. For those with offsite accommodations, please contact your individual hotel for more information.

A couple of our annual meeting attendees are looking for rooms due to their accommodations being unable to honor their reservations. If anyone currently has an extra bed they'd be willing to offer, please contact heather.oswald@emory.edu.

Additional information about the Bonaventure Cemetery tour planned for Friday afternoon will be provided soon. It's possible that the tour will be cancelled. If it's cancelled, anyone who donated to the Bonaventure Historical Society will have the option of being reimbursed.

When traveling, please use caution. There has been a curfew in effect and its implementation is being handled on a day-to-day basis. The latest we have is that Chatham County is currently under a curfew from 10pm to 7am, so we strongly advise arriving before 10pm if traveling. While some of the county is under a boil water notice, City of Savannah water has been deemed safe--if staying outside of the city, follow local advisories. To avoid potential lines at gas stations in town, recommendations are for people to fuel up at least 40 miles out from Savannah if possible.

While some restaurants are closed, several are starting to re-open. We hope to send out a list of local restaurants tomorrow by noon.

An updated program will be sent out and also made available on our website at http://soga.org/annualmeeting.

Thank you all again for your patience and support as SGA and SFA support making #SavannahStrong
